What is a cold spring? |
| A cold spring could either refer to the cold load on the spring which references the initial or installed position. Also, that could refer to cold springing which would be using the spring to impart a load which adds to the pipe weight and essentially adds stresses as well. An additional explanation for cold spring could be movement of the pipe caused by thermal expansion or material flow in the pipe.
The cold load is shown below on this variable spring support and is indicated by the white diamond at the bottom of the pressure plate.
