U.S. Bellows, Inc., the
expansion joint division of Piping Technology & Products, Inc., designed and
fabricated two 10" single tied titanium expansion joints (figure 1,
2) for a chemical plant in Kingsport, Tennessee. The expansion joints are to
be used to transport acetic acid. The expansion joints were welded in an inert
atmosphere in order to prevent contamination of the titanium. Forming bellows
out of such material requires special treatment to prevent it from busting
