Constants come in many shapes and sizes, depending on the application. This photo shows an upthrust constant.

This photograph shows a large group of constant spring hangers ready for shipment. These devices are individually designed to provide a constant resistance to thermal movement of large piping systems. Piping Technology & Products, Inc. designs and builds constants and other devices necessary to support high pressure steam piping in power plants, petrochemical plants, and paper mills. the constant load the customer requires can vary from 100 to 100,000 lbs. and design travel can be as great as 25 inches.

Constants with standard designs will satisfy most combinations of load and actual movement which piping system designers require. The maximum load-total travel combinations available for each coil size are shown in the LOAD AND TOTAL TRAVEL TABLES on the Engineered Spring Supports - Constant Spring Hangers page of the PT&P online Pipe Supports Catalog. Piping Technology and Products uses Figure 100 to designate constants where the spring coil is vertical and Figure 200 to designate constants where the spring coil is horizontal. Drawings and dimensions for standard sizes for each constant are provided on pp. 43-79 of our Main Catalog.
