EXPANSION JOINTS (page 2 of 2)
The geometry, movement, temperature, and pressure, and the number of cycles of the system where the expansion joint is to be installed define the design parameters. Design parameters includes the correct selection of materials and other alternatives to meet the requirements at a minimum cost for the economic life of the system. The photos to the right and below show aluminum bellows which are installed in a system which contains liquids at cryogenic temperatures that turn into gases at lower pressures and higher temperatures.
These aluminum bellows have special quality control tests using helium to assure that the welds do not leak. PT&P's quality program assures that all types of expansion joints meet the requirements specified by the design engineers
