EXPANSION JOINTS: METAL BELLOWS
| If metal bellows are
required, the first step is to cut rectangular
pieces from the required metal, usually thin(with
respect to dimensions)stainless steel or some
other alloy. This photo shows a person using a
large shear to cut a piece from a roll of
stainless steel. |
 |
 |
Next, the
rectangular piece is rolled into the shape of a
cylinder, then placed in an automatic welding
machine where the seam is welded to make a metal
cylinder |
| Cylinders are placed on a machine as in the photo
to the left and right. These cylinders are used to form the
required convolutions to create a metal bellows. |
 |
 |
 |
In the photo to the
left, you can see some rollers used to shape the
convolutions. |
| Here a
"wedding cake" machine is being used to
make the end of the bellows round and the correct
circumference. The next photo shows a completed
60-inch diameter stainless steel bellows with
convolutions at each end. We can build any type
of metal bellows, including multi-ply, which
start with layers of cylinders. |
 |
 |
| When
the required bellows are complete, they are
fabricated into an expansion joint which becomes
part of the piping system. The next two photos
show the fabrication of a "U-shape"
joint which is to be welded into an expansion
loop of a piping system. We can design and
fabricate all configurations of expansion joints
using metal bellows as components. |
