EXPANSION JOINTS: THICK WALL
 |
These may be cost-effective for large diameter
piping systems which operate at low pressure. Metals can be
selected to satisfy different temperature conditions. The
distribution of axial, angular, and lateral forces will be
different when the thick wall expansion joints are used. We can
provide the forces and moments to your design engineers for
proper design of the structural members supporting the system. |
| Convolutions for
thick wall expansion joints are fabricated by
shaping two "washer-shaped" flat metal
pieces. A single convolution is formed by welding
the outside circumference as shown in the photo
to the right. These joints are specified in
applications where the piping systems have a
small number of temperature cycles. |
