When pipelines expand and contract due to heat, support systems must adapt to protect capital-intensive, critical path, long-lead-time fixed equipment essential to plant operations and output. That’s where the need for variable spring pipe supports comes in to maintain the integrity of the piping systems.

These supports are designed to carry the vertical weight of the pipe while allowing for thermal movement. As temperatures change and loads change, the pipe shifts. A variable spring reacts with a moment  with the compression of the spring, supporting that movement and keeping your system in balance. In a project for a Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) facility in Mozambique, we fabricated a series of custom-designed cryogenic pipe supports engineered for performance in high-demand applications.

Piping Technology & Products designed these trapeze roller hangers for a food processing facility in Kentucky. Rollers are typically employed when axial movement at the support location results in swing angles exceeding 4 degrees.

The rollers are available in lengths ranging from 2-5/8″ to 16-3/8″ for pipe diameters between 4″ and 16″. Constructed with cast iron rolls and sockets along with steel roll rods, they ensure durability and adaptability for a range of applications.

The rollers are oriented horizontally for the suspension of pipes using two all threaded vertical rods and hex nuts for vertical adjustments, effectively accommodating longitudinal movement caused by thermal expansion or contraction. They are designed for load ratings ranging from 600 to 3,970 lbs.

PT&P designed Fig. PTP 200-U upthrust constant spring supports modified to accommodate an increased installed height. PT&P fabricated these constant assemblies from A36 carbon steel. They were designed for temperatures up to 185°F, and a load of 15,737 lb. The constants are capable of a downward total travel of 2″ and are 61″ L x 25″ W x 39″ H. Standard load and travel tests were conducted prior to shipment.
